Irvine, CA, January 6, 1998 -- Interplay Productions announced today that it has entered into a joint venture with Infogrames Multimedia for Heart Of Darkness. In the venture, Interplay will publish the title in North America and Infogrames will publish the title in Europe with the remainder of the world split between the two companies. The game, developed by Amazing Studio, will be simultaneously released for the Sony PlayStation and Windows 95/98 and Windows NT 4.0/5.0 based PC's. The action adventure platform game is scheduled to ship in the spring of 1998.

"This unprecedented cooperation between two major publishers will maximize the commercial success of the title," states Brian Fargo, CEO of Interplay. "We are looking forward to this collaboration with Infogrames and the release of Heart Of Darkness. "The best way to describe Heart Of Darkness is that it's more like an interactive animated film than anything else," says Fargo. "The game has a Toy Story-esque look to it mixed with fast paced and challenging puzzles that gamers desire."

In this action adventure, gamers assume the role of Andy, a young boy who must journey deep into another world to rescue his beloved dog, Whiskey, from the forces of evil. In this secret kingdom - a world of magic, adventure, furry friends and manic monsters - lies the key to Andy's innermost fear, his fear of the dark. Players control Andy's destiny, hold back the forces of evil and face the Master of Darkness.

Gamers will climb, swing, twist, swim and shoot their way through a world filled with mystical mazes, outlandish landscapes and evil enemies. This is a land where childhood nightmares are a reality. Gamers fight head-on through nine levels in a world inhabited by The Shades and The Dark Souls.

"Our goal in creating Heart Of Darkness was to take gaming to a new level of sophistication," said Eric Chahi, co-founder of Amazing Studio. "We didn't want our images to look like hi-tech 3D computer images, but more like natural backgrounds_closer to a painting than a hyper realistic rendering, and for characters, something closer to cartoons." Amazing studio's website, is filled with these "cartoon" images and movies that really give the gamer a taste of what the adventure is like.

Heart Of Darkness is rendered with 3D Studio and relies on traditional computer animation. Andy, our hero, takes up more than 2000 frames of animation in one direction alone while maintaining seamless transition between actions. This mixing of transitions allows for a greater and smoother level of interaction.

"Amazing Studio and Interplay have produced award-winning titles in the past," commented, Alan Pavlish, executive producer in charge of the action division at Interplay. "I worked with Eric Chahi on Out of This World which was a huge success and a great experience and I anticipate Heart Of Darkness will be even more successful. The game, with its gorgeous environments, strong puzzles and storyline, pull the player in and keep him hooked until the very end, making it challenging and fun to play."
