AGE OF EMPIRES SHIPS OVER 650,000 UNITS WORLDWIDE
Redmont, WA, December 12th, 1997 -- Microsoft announced today that it has already shipped more than 650,000 units worldwide of its award-winning title, Age of Empires.
Age of Empires has been the top selling strategy game and has consistently been one of the top five selling games in revenue since its release in mid-October 1997. In addition, Age of Empires is the leading game title in the marketplace that is not a sequel or new edition.
Age of Empires is an epic, real-time strategy game spanning 10,000 years in which players are the guiding spirit in the evolution of small Stone Age tribes. Starting with minimal resources, players are challenged to build their tribes into great civilizations. Gamers can choose from several ways to win the game, including conquering enemy civilizations, exploring the known world, and accumulating wealth. Age of Empires, developed by Ensemble Studios, features the expertise of Bruce Shelley, co-designer of the hit strategy game Civilization.
