3DFX INTERACTIVE AND GUILLEMOT INTERNATIONAL ANNOUNCE VOODOO 2 PARTNERSHIP
Largest European Distributor of Voodoo Cards Readies For Worldwide Launch of Voodoo 2Las Vegas, NV, November 18, 1997 -- Guillemot International (GI), a worldwide developer and distributor of multimedia peripherals, today announced their plans to develop a next generation graphics accelerator board based on 3Dfx Interactive's Voodoo 2 technology. As a leading distributor of Voodoo cards in Europe, GI plans a simultaneous worldwide launch of their new Voodoo 2 card, the latest card in GI's Maxi Graphics line of graphics accelerators, in the First Quarter of 1998. "We are pleased to have GI, a leading distributor of quality gaming peripherals, utilizing our technology," said Andy Keane, Vice President of Marketing at 3Dfx Interactive. "We are confident that their boards will take full advantage of the capabilities provided by our new Voodoo 2 chipset. Our partnership has been an important factor in 3Dfx's worldwide success, which will continue with the launch of the Voodoo 2 add-in cards." Voodoo 2 technology delivers an amazing 3 million triangles per second and 90 million dual-textured, bilinear-filters, per pixel MIP-mapped, alpha-blended, Z-buffered pixels per second, offering performance over three times faster than the current Voodoo Graphics chipset. Bringing the end-user unsurpassed performance, the Voodoo 2 chipset contains two texture processing units that simultaneously apply two textures to a triangle for single-pass, single-cycle rendering of effects such as trilinear filtering, sophisticated lighting, spotlights and detail texturing. "3Dfx Interactive has proven their expertise in providing superior 3D acceleration technology," noted Dave Peterson, Senior Product Manager for GI. "We continue to offer only the highest quality peripherals by becoming one of the first companies to adopt the Voodoo 2 technology." Voodoo 2 technology will be compatible with Microsoft's Direct 3D, 3Dfx's Glide and OpenGL APIs ensuring that consumers can still use their existing games with the new graphics boards. Model names, configurations, pricing and software bundled with GI's new graphics card will be announced at a later date. Guillemot International is a major contributor to the multimedia field through its innovative line of peripherals. With an extensive in-house technology development center and years of PC sound and gaming experience, GI is setting standards with its Maxi Sound and Maxi Graphics hardware product lines.
