Public beta testing of Starcraft on Battle.net

Irvine, CA, December 14th, 1997 -- Starting at 6:00 pm PST on Friday, December 19th, Blizzard will be accepting on-line applications for people interested in beta-testing Starcraft over Battle.net. The signup period will last until midnight PST. Blizzard will be randomly picking 1,000 testers from around the world to receive and help the company test a special Battle.net-only version of Starcraft. Signups are not on a first-come first-serve basis, so people can apply anytime during the six hour period. Duplicate applications will be ignored.

Qualifications to participate to the beta testing:

  • Pentium 90, with 16 or more mb RAM,
  • Mouse, CD-ROM, and a DirectX-compatible SVGA video card,
  • Windows 95 or Windows NT 4.0,
  • Internet connection must be capable of running 32-bit Windows socket applications (such as Microsoft Internet Explorer),
  • Valid e-mail address,
  • Sign up during the specified time period using the on-line application. E-mail applications will not be accepted.

If applicants do not meet all of the above qualifications, they will not be accepted as a beta tester.

During the application process, applicants will be asked for their shipping address and information on their computer system, such as processor speed and RAM.
