Synergy is a Japanese based company that has designed several acclaimed games for the Macintosh. Following their success, they have decided to release some of their games for the PC market. Among them is L-ZONE, a game set in a strange city by the same name. Built by a mad scientist and covered by a huge dome where monumental buildings rise beneath, the city has been abandoned.

Will you dare to enter and discover its secrets? L-ZONE is a network of vast spaces and corridors where dynamos and machines lie around. You will discover switches, monitors and controls everywhere throughout the city. Although it might be dangerous for you to manipulate the control panels, you will find yourself attracted to all the switches and buttons you see.

When you activate one of them, you will be granted some Quicktime animations that are very well rendered. Most other times, you will see 3D animations of machines and robots but also dazzling visual effects from dozens of monitors.

Each room will provide you with new experiences to explore, but beware, some of them are lethal as I unfortunately experienced myself.

"L-ZONE" is an adventure game which differs slightly from the others. For example, there is no one to talk to as the city is uninhabited, and therefore you will not find any text in this game. In fact, this game could be considered as an exploration game where you try to understand what all the machines in the city were supposed to achieve. In the beginning, things look to be a bit strange, but once you get going, you will find yourself wanting to try every switch in sight just to find out what will happen, even if it kills you.

Conclusion:

It might be frustrating to finish this type of game so quickly as the game can be completed in just a few hours. However, the quality of the graphics and the futuristic style of music and sounds should keep the player intrigued right up to the end of the game.
