Hydra and The Night Archer Run Rampant In Continued Battle With Serpent Riders

Santa Monica, CA, August 28, 1997 -- Prepare for blood and carnage! The downloadable demo of Raven Software's highly anticipated 3-D action/role playing game, Hexen II is available now on the id Software and Activision Web sites. The Hexen II demo offers three levels of the game: two single player levels and one multi-player deathmatch level. The full version of the game, which is developed by Raven Software, executive produced by id Software and distributed by Activison, Inc., will be available in retail stores this Fall.

"Gamers must bludgeon their way through two demon-infested levels in order to test their skills against malicious monsters such as the silent swimming killer Hydra, or the Night Archer who fires arrows with deadly aim," states Bobby Kotick, Chairman and CEO, Activision, Inc. "The demo's realistic environments give players a taste of the game's mind-blowing worlds."

The Hexen II demo allows gamers to assume the characters of the Assassin, taker of lives, and the Paladin, warrior who calls upon the power of the gods. These characters, along with the Necromancer, master of blackest magic and the Crusader, man of magic and skill at arms, lurk in the full version of the game.

Hexen II transports players into four worlds - a medieval town and castle, a Roman villa, Egyptian Pyramids and Meso-American ruins. One of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse lies in wait at the conclusion of each world. Gamers must choose to battle as one of four classes in single-player mode, or fight against all four classes in multi-player deathmatches.

Gamers inflict brutal pain and death on their enemies with swords, daggers, wands, staves and spells, and each class offers a choice of four weapons of destruction. The Tome of Power enhances the artillery by powering up the arms for a total of 32 weapons. Other weapons include the Paladin's Purifier Wand that shoots a steady stream of flaming projectiles; the Necromancer's Staff of Set; a hand crossbow that fires flaming bolts which fasten onto enemies and explode; vorpal axes firing magical blades; and gauntlets.

Hexen II is the sequel to Raven and id Software's hit title Hexen: Beyond Heretic which has sold over a quarter of a million copies worldwide. The new game, developed by Raven Software with id Software serving as executive producer, will be based on an enhanced version of id's industry-leading QUAKE engine technology.
