Command & Conquer Fans Battle to be Sole Survivor on the Internet
Command & Conquer Sole Survivor is the Latest Addition to Westwood Studios' Best-Selling Command & Conquer Product LineLas Vegas, NV, April 17, 1997 -- Westwood Studios, the company behind the fastest selling computer game of all time, Command & Conquer Red Alert, today announced an online, multiplayer addition to its phenomenally successful Command & Conquer product line, Command & Conquer Sole Survivor. The game will be available at retail this Summer. Sole Survivor is a multiplayer game that will allow up to 50 players to compete against each other in a single game. Players select a single unit to command as they engage in a deadly game of hide-and-seek; scurrying to pick up "crates" (power-ups) to enhance their unit, battle other players and avoid being destroyed. The crates provide a variety of unit enhancements ranging from increased speed and weapon strength to first aid and stealth capabilities. Players should be warned, however, that some crates contain booby traps that will damage or even destroy their unit. The ultimate goal of Sole Survivor is to be the last remaining unit on the battlefield. "Sole Survivor expands and enhances the Command & Conquer experience for gamers," said Brett W. Sperry, president of Westwood Studios. "Now the strategy of the game is to out-maneuver, out-race, and out-shoot your opponents. It is a fast-paced multiplayer game that fans of Command & Conquer will find extremely addictive." Sole Survivor simultaneously supports up to 50 players who are free to engage one another or form alliances with other players. Sole Survivor will also feature a skirmish mode against computer opponents to allow players to sharpen their skills before going online. Sole Survivor will initially be available for play exclusively on Westwood's online gaming service, Westwood Chat. Westwood Studios is planning to support Sole Survivor with exciting contests, competitions, promotions, and plans to begin large scale beta testing of Sole Survivor by late May in anticipation of a July release.
