First Ever STAR TREK Strategy Game for the PC

Irving, CA, April 6, 1998 -- Interplay Productions announced today their upcoming Star Trek(R) strategy game title, STAR TREK(R): Starfleet Command(TM). This real-time strategy game set in the Star Trek universe will beam into retail stores for Christmas 1998. Besides being the first and only real-time Star Trek strategy game on CD-ROM, it is also the only Star Trek game that is played in third person. For strategy and Star Trek fans alike, STAR TREK: Starfleet Command will be available for Windows(R) 95 based PCs and 100% compatibles.

The game offers a highly accurate representation of the Star Trek universe in an exciting real-time setting. It will combine in-depth strategic planning with cinematic, head-to-head action for up to six players via LAN, modem to modem, null modem cable and Interplay's Internet matching service. STAR TREK: Starfleet Command will feature classic Star Trek television and movie footage in its introduction plus engaging audio clips throughout the game.

"STAR TREK: Starfleet Command takes off where STAR TREK(TM): Starfleet Academy(TM) left off," said Interplay producer, Alan Emrich. "The gamer has gone through the Academy training and is now ready for his first real tour of duty. STAR TREK: Starfleet Command is where the gamer is a true Captain and makes or breaks his own career as a commanding officer."

STAR TREK: Starfleet Command will allow the gamer to play one of several races including the most popular: Federation, Klingon, Romulan, and even some new races. There will also be a random campaign game generator featuring the new Dynaverse(TM) scenario engine so the gamer can truly create his or her own unique destiny. The missions the player receives will be a direct result of, and have a direct impact upon, the current state of galactic affairs in an ever-changing galaxy. Careers will never play the same way twice.

The gamer will be able to command a squadron of up to three ships, each with their own officers, special weapons, and abilities. With over 50 customizable, detailed ship hulls for the different races, plus dozens of planetary systems, nebulae, and asteroid fields, no two players will ever experience the same game. A number of famous historical missions for the gamer to re-enact will also be included.

Three difficulty settings will accommodate all skill levels, from the novice gamer to the most experienced Trekker. Beautifully rendered 16-bit SVGA graphics, and a 3D combat view make for an unparalleled Star Trek gaming experience.
