Unofficial missions disk for Command & Conquer Red Alert to be taken off the market

Las Vegas, NV, March 12, 1997 -- Westwood Studios today announced that it has reached a settlement with Head Games Publishing, makers of DEFCON 3, an unofficial expansion pack for the blockbuster hit strategy game, Command & Conquer Red Alert. While terms of the deal were not discussed in detail, Westwood said that Head Games Publishing had agreed to recall all existing inventory from retailers nationwide and provide Westwood with complete disclosure on sales of DEFCON 3.

"I am glad we are able to settle this matter on favorable terms for both parties," said Brett W. Sperry, president and CEO of Westwood Studios. "Our commitment to our customers includes protecting the quality of our brands, particularly Command & Conquer titles. Our customers expect that any companion products they buy for our games come from the original designers. We've created our own expansion pack, Command & Conquer Red Alert Counterstrike, to meet that very expectation."

Westwood Studios recently announced Counterstrike as an expansion pack for Command & Conquer Red Alert. It will feature 16 all-new missions from the original designers and 100 new multiplayer maps, as well as a Red Alert Windows 95 desktop theme pack.
