Multi-player Capabilities Allow Eight Players to Engage in Real-Time Network Gameplay

Los Angeles, CA, March 7, 1997 -- Activision will rock the world of Macinstosh gaming by offering MechWarrior 2 fans the opportunity to download a Mac version of MechWarrior 2: NetMech for free from the Activision web site beginning on March 12. Extending the realm of savage warfare, NetMech allows two players to battle head-to-head via modem or eight players to engage in real-time network gameplay.

"The demand and anticipation for a Macintosh version of NetMech has been extraordinary," stated Bobby Kotick, Chairman and CEO, Activision, Inc. "As a result, Activision is supporting the Mac version of MechWarrior 2 with mulit-player capabilities that will deliver the ultimate Internet gaming challenge."

Based on FASA Corporation’s BattleTech Universe, MechWarrior 2 thrusts players into the ultimate 31st century combat experience -- an explosive world of sight, sound and action. Featuring a video introduction by Digital Domain, texture mapped 3-D objects and sound effects by Soundelux Media Labs, the sophisticated combat simulation allows gamers to battle in a variety of terrains, ranging from urban landscapes to ice to canyons to desert.

Since its initial launch, MechWarrior 2 has shipped more than 700,000 retail units worldwide and received widespread critical acclaim including "Best Game" for 1995 by PC Entertainment, "Space Sim of the Year" by Computing Gaming World, "Best PC CD-ROM Game" by Video Game Advisor, and the "Editor's Choice" by PC Games, among others.
