Irvine, CA., May 16, 1996 -- IT'S WAR!!! Virgin Interactive Entertainment (VIE) is launching a major military offensive with COMMAND & CONQUER: RED ALERT, the highly anticipated addition to its award-winning COMMAND & CONQUER brand. Developed by Westwood Studios, COMMAND & CONQUER: RED ALERT, the follow-up to the pioneering title that was 1995's number one selling real-time strategy game, will be available for PC CD-ROM, DOS and Windows 95 in October 96.

COMMAND & CONQUER: RED ALERT is the ultimate in real-time strategy games, taking players one step beyond the original. Featuring the most-advanced artificial intelligence in games today, COMMAND & CONQUER: RED ALERT creates a computer opponent that is more cunning than ever before. The player has additional power as well, with opportunities for more involved strategies and tactics, utilizing an all new arsenal of units and structures. And if they're bold enough, they can even take on more enemies with the new Internet head-to-head play, available when using the Windows 95 version.

In the newest addition to the COMMAND & CONQUER franchise, Hitler never came to power. Instead, it is Stalin whose maniacal quest for power must be stopped as his ruthless troops march across Europe. Players can command either the Allied forces, as they struggle to end Stalin's unprecedented reign of terror, or explore their dark side and align with Stalin and his Soviet forces as they crush weaker foes.

Key features for COMMAND & CONQUER: RED ALERT are:

"This Autumn we hope to delight strategy gamers once again with the next installment, Command & Conquer: Red Alert. The new game will probe more deeply into the mystery of the C&C universe, while giving players exciting new strategies and game elements to further their conquests in solo, modem, and Internet play," said Brett Sperry, President of Westwood Studios.

"Westwood Studios continues to improve upon the great work it has already done," said Rand Bleimester, senior vice president of sales and marketing. "Command & Conquer is definitely one of the strongest franchises this industry has seen in years."
